Persian Kebab with Salad Shirazi over Buttered Bread

Hey guys… so if you watch my youtube Channel Sonya Sed you know that I absolutely love to cook and bake. Its just my thing you know.. like we all have our “thing” and this is mine. For me cooking or baking is more then just feeding my family.. it genuinely makes me happy. I feel so relaxed and in my own world when I am in the kitchen, its where I feel disconnected with the world and in tune with my own.. its amazing. I love to try new flavor combinations, make dishes from other ethnicities, make dishes that make my pallet explode…and within it all.. never forgetting to add my own personality.. food with a kick of Sonya. LoL.

On you youtube channel linked above, I share a step by step video of how to make this meal. Trust me you won’t be disappointed. If you love meat or middle eastern food.. this dish won’t disappoint.. I promise!! On the Blog however I will write down ingredients needed and instructions.. That way you can just print this out and follow along while watching my video to make sure you have no failures. haha lets get to it.

INGREDIENTS USED;

  • 500g ground beef/burger meet
  • 2 white onions
  • 1 cucumber
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Turmeric
  • 2 Lemons
  • Salt/Black Pepper
  • optional: Sabzi powder
  • Salted Butter
  • Flat bread of choice

INSTRUCTIONS KEBAB:

  • In a large bowl grate 1 onion and remove the excise liquid.
  • Add in ground beef
  • Add in Turmeric, Salt (generous amount) and Pepper
  • With your hand mix them altogether as you would a dough.
  • In a non stick pan spread the meat flat making sure it is even in size so it cooks at the same time. Cut the Kebab into 4 sections, this step is very important because it acts as a ventilation for the meat to cook properly and so it doesn’t puff up and form   a disaster. (Watch video to see how I did this).
  • Add the pan over high heat and let it fry for about 1 to 2 minutes covered till the water from the meat is cooked through.. once this time has lapsed add in about 60ml of water.. not much. Cover on low heat and let this slowly cook for 45min, if you feel it is getting dry add in more water in small segments. Once time has lapsed, flip the Kebab and cut in 1 tomato adding this around it. Cover and let sit on very low heat for another 10minutes. Depending on how well done you like your meat, feel free to cut into it and see how you like it. My husband likes his meat very very well done so I generally cook it for much longer. Once cooked, in a dish add flat bread of choice with some butter over top, add in the kebab and tomatoes and cover with another buttered bread. Seal it with foil.. allowing all those meat and tomato juices to seep into the buttered bread.

INSTRUCTIONS SALAD SHIRZAZI

  • In a salad bowl cut in, 2 tomatoes, Cucumber and 1 onion. When you cut them, try to cut them all into the same size so you get an equal bit full of each rather then a larger piece of onion or tomato. Once cut, add in the juice of 1 and a half or 2 lemons depending on size.. disregarding the seeds for this will give a slight Bitter taste to the juice. Add in salt, pepper and Sabzi flakes if you wish.. that is completely optional. Give it a good mix and let it sit for 30min in the fridge.. or not lol.. if your impatient like me.. and enjoy!!!!

Easy breezy summer looks. 0 effort, maximum use!

Summer is all about flowing dresses, shorts and amazing tans. Typically every summer I love to do the most.. and by most I mean, styling my summer outfits and making life very complicated. Now, complicated is good at times but I have found that sometimes the most simple items for summer is not only so much more convenient but just much more practical.. ESPECIALLY when traveling. I do travel a lot and during my past few trips.. I pack items that have multiple uses. A skirt that I can dress up and walk around town with that also turns into a by the beach|pool skirt to cover my ass if I want to walk around. Same thing with my bathing suits and shoes, even my hair. Thank goodness one piece bathing suits are super stylish… for one I freaking love them, so chic.. and two its the best to wear and not have to worry about a top. Simply just throw on your shorts or skirt over it and BAM SHAZAM you have got yourself a simple..0 effort outfit at its maximum use. Brilliant! I know!

Top knot hair bun Spring/Summer trend

I recently cut my hair about 8inchs shorter… WHAT?!!!? Yeah I legit internally cried on the inside as she was cutting away. I swear hair dressers get a thrill of cutting long ass hair short. I mean… I guess I can kinda relate; being that when I was younger I would only buy barbies with long hair so I could go home and give them a short hair cut myself lol.. I know a few of you reading this did the same exact thing!! Sighhh*

Well now that I have such shorter hair, which I am loving, styling it has become much more different. First obvious difference is how much faster and easier it is.. also loving, but what I love the most right now is the half top knot bun. I tried this look with my long hair but because my hair is so thick it looked horrible. Now that my hair is short it looks so good.

The top knot half way bun I feel is going to be a big hit this summer. I already see the younger celebs doing it and I see it on the runway so I am excited to do this more often. Quick tip on the perfect top knot; when parting the top to make a bun out of it, make sure you leave your side burns hanging down. This gives it a more effortless youthful look as opposed to it looking to put together like you tried. I really think that the more natural look, the look that you didn’t try hard (but you did lol) look is happening this coming season transitioning into summer. The naked makeup, glowing skin, full bushier brows, blush tones and wavy effortless looking hair dues! <– do’s! (Which ever way it’s spelled)!

Holding my favorite perfume by Tom Ford; Black Orchid

Let me know what you think of this style and if you have any other recomendations.

The SweatPant Style Trend. Ready-to-Wear

If you aren’t even a little bit excited about this new trend then you are just lost in the world. Let’s face it, who doesn’t LOVE wearing sweaters and sweatpants?!? Who!? Don’t get me wrong..I love glam and I am the jeans and T-shirt queen BUT a good pair of sweatpants!!! Yeah!

Loving this new trend does NoT mean I love how everyone is wearing it. The whole sweatpants with heels wear of this is just not my cup of tea. If I’m going to wear sweatpants that means I’m going to wear either Sandels, uggs.. or sneakers., but heels….da f*%#! Umm no. If a trend is allowing me to be comfortable with an excuses then you best believe I am going to milk that comfort level to all new heights…. right???

Yesterday my husband and I went to the local zoo, well the only zoo in Barcelona lol. And it was the beginning of Carnival festivities here in Spain so we both dressed down went on a 4 hour walk and had an epic cheat day (in regards to food duh). And when you add hours of walking AND hours of eating, you must break out the sweatpants.

Sweatpants are from Zara kids boy section. Top is Zara. Purse is YSL. And shoes are Nike.

Transitioning to Spring. StreetStyle Edition

I could not be happier that Spring is Springing along so quickly. Although it doesn’t look so sunny outside in my pictures it was actually pretty nice out. It’s been sunny all week and I am so digging it. If there is one thing I get sick of very very quickly, it’s carrying or wearing a heavy coat. Coats in my opinion are nice and can add a spiceiness to ones outfit but it’s always what’s underneath that counts… at least to me.

Transitioning into spring. I absolutely love sweaters. Not your typical gym sweater but a chic chasmere or knitted sweater top. For Spring season they are essential. They pretty much go with every pant type and is easily dressed up or down, which is Life!!!!

Today I wore a Zara sweater (comes in other colors as well), paired with high waisted Mango jeans, Zara Booties and Hermes Birkin 35 in black. I was warm and comfy and had my new short hair cut to compliment it all!!!

I will share more Spring fashion incorporating sweaters. Also guys.. never forget, it doesn’t matter how much money you spend on an item or what the brand is… it’s how you wear it and piece it together!!!! ❤

Let’s talk Hair. Go “long” or go home!?

I have had long hair pretty much my whole life. With the exception of my younger days when my mom would turn me into a boy with the hair cuts she would get me sighh*. I think that scared me for life and now I am just terrified to go short. Or am I?

I LOVE short hair. And honestly if I had smooth sleek hair that wasn’t so thick I would have cut it all off a long time ago. My shortest length was a little under my shoulders a couple years ago and I loved it (feelings were not mutual as far as my husband goes lol). Short hair is so chic in my opinion. I think it pulls a look together so nicely and just screams mature. Okay without trying to offend anyone here… long hair is only nice when you have full voluminess  hair that is healthy. I see so many grow their thin brittle dead hair long and it completely ages the person. Hair like that should be cut short with full of mixed layers and only blow dried. YAS!

Nonetheless there are some cons to long hair. It’s very difficult to maintain. It gets stuck everywhere. It’s annoying to sleep with. It uses up two bottles of conditioner a month (which is a lot for me) and it’s super heavy. So I’m pretty conflicted as if to cut it short and take that leap into the short hair club again!!?!?

Before I leave let me give you my major tips for long healthy hair for those of you seeking to achieve just that.

  1. ONLY wash your hair once a week
  2. Do NOT flat iron your hair. Use a blow drier and wait till your hair is damp-dry NOT wet
  3. Use a good argon oil on the tips of your hair after showers and after blow drying.

I mean really guys, invest in a good shower cap and use it. You will love the results, I swear by it.

The fashion fall down…literally

Ahhh yes. In fashion sometimes we take risks, sometimes we take pain and sometimes we just tumble and eat sh**…on the bright side of things however I got to wear my new platform shoes!

Typically I love mixing high end items with much more affordable items. I actually do this on a daily basis and it works so nicely that way. Sometimes to much of a brandy outfit just doesn’t look good…almost like you are trying to hard, yah know?! Example: A Gucci logo shirt paired with Gucci jeans with the visible snake stitch and Louboutins and that Louis Vuitton bag you just got. In my opinion that looks like you are trying way to hard. I personally Love making my less expensive clothes look expensive so when a random person says wow I love your top where is it from.. I can share where and how much I go it from, oh and tell them it’s still available so goooo get it!!!

This day I wore basically Zara from head to toe. Jeans and men’s sweater is by Zara as well as my new platform shoes, which I loved. Jacket is by True Religion and bag is Louis Vuitton. I love simple outfits that are comfortable with a hint of statement attached to it. And really I just dress my mood, which most people do.

The day was going great. My fashion photographer (a.k.a my husband) was taking my photo and I’m not sure how but I managed to roll down all those stairs.. get up and trip and fall again. Not only did I trip on my shoes because they are so clumpy but I was also gifted with a blister behind my foot the size of a golf ball… yea I’m still recovering from that blister!!! However, aside from all that fashion is about taking risks and risks sometimes come with pain and suffer or joy and glam. We cant always be winners!!!

Until my next tumble…XoXo
